Looks like Intuos 1, my friend had one too. Mine's Intuos 2 Serial port but it works wonderfully for me. And it's a big drawing area. *looks up intuos 1 on google* Man you know it's old when you can't even find a pic of it on the internet -_-b Anyway saw a pic of the intuos 2 and it does look like it's the next gen from mine. That's awesome that yours still works great!

XD that must be old, thinking about the fact that we can find pictures of cavemen on the 'net, and they are REALLY old
anyway, is it nice to use? and by any chance does the active area measure 9"x12"? and how far can you hover the pen from the tablet before it doesn't work anymore? *is wanting to build something XD*

yeah 9x12 live area and mine can't read if I hover it a little over 1/4th an inch. Has full touch sensitivity though.

aw man... only a quarter inch? I wonder if you can raise the power, since I need it to go a half inch or so. What I want to do is take a spare 15 inch LCD (12x9 dimensions) and take the tablet out of its casing, put the screen and a small piece of Plexiglas to protect the screen on top of the tablet and make a new case for them, and then hook it all up. Hopefully the end result should be a wacom critiq XD

My SO's got an Intuos (the original) like that, it still works other than one slightly wibbly area. Those things are built like bricks of awesome. Mine's an Intuos2 4x5, aka " expensive Zoid rest" until I can get the drivers working >_>. The 2s are a dark blue color, with greyblue clear overlay bits. (edit) And if you're hovering the pen over the tablet, that just moves it. You have to actually touch the surface to register clicks/draw, hence the pressure sensitive deal.

yeah, I know, that is why I am putting the plexiglas over the LCD panel itself, so that is the new drawing surface, and its transparent so you can see the screen, ya know?

but isn't she having driver issues because she is on linux? did they ever make wacom drivers for linux?

Danno about Tilly's case, but I know newer computers don't have the drivers to old wacom models :/

thats what she told me anyway ^^;
but yeah, I wonder if you can overpower those sensors to get more range... *goes to check ebay on how cheap I can get one to experiment with*

Thin stuff like paper over the drawing surface works, but I suspect anything rigid plus an LCD (which would be squishy enough to eat the "feel" of the pen) would defeat the whole thing. I mean, I haven't tried it, but I'm skeptical...with how much Cintinq stuff costs, if it were that easy I bet people would be doing it.
And yeah, it's some weeeird linuxy issue. The drivers are SUPPOSED to support Intuos2, but they're only half-working. One of these days I might just nuke-pave-try again XD.

Mine's a 9x12 active zone. I can hover the pen for approx 1cm before it loses contact. Though the driver can pi$$ me off sometimes with its "OHMAIGAWD, THIS MACHINE CANNOT FIND THE DRIVER" dialog box -.- then I'd restart to have it working again. Though that is sometimes. If ever... XD

my inspiration is off of this: www.bongofish.co.uk/wacom/wacom_pt1.htmlworked for him, so why not for me? XD and also, you are suppost to make sure there are no gaps between them, and insulate against shorts with paper or thin foam. This way, it can't be squishy XD

Hey that Wacom that guy shows in part 3 is exactly the one I have! So it's technically called a Wacom Ultrapad....
