Since I'm not going to make the ZP contest anyway with what I have in mind, I might as well share this WIP as I go along. This is the discussed "Pink Molga". How pink it'll eventually be remains to be seen... Targets for this project: - Custom paintjob - Custom pilot - Custom diorama base After cleaning all the parts of flash I wondered if I should glue some things together before painting. Especially the tip of the tail and the main body would of course have a very visible seam. But realized gluing the main body would be too involved later on with having to make seperate pins to put the thing together, so decided against. So, after just pressing some parts together, on sticks and blocks they went for a coat of grey primer. Then I airbrushed everything a glossy black, as the glossy darkness is supposed to be a good underlayer for the metallic paints. Oops, I see I missed some spots there! Oh well, it will be covered with metallics anyway. You can also see I drilled out the muzzles of the guns, something I forgot to do with Hel Digunner. As a beat-it-up, weather the hell out of it type of guy I'm not used to spraying glossy paints for their glossy qualities, but so far it seems to go fine. And that's it so far. Paint is drying for the next step.

Yeah a black base is what you need for metallics to really shine ;D

Dang, having trouble with spraying Mr. Metalizer Dark Iron... Never used that colour in the airbrush before. The stuff is either too thick to airbrush, and when it's thinned enough to actually be able to spray it's too thin and it runs. It being almost black doesn't help either, as it's hard to see covering. Yuk. Their Chrome Silver goes fine though, I used it before and sprays like a marvel! Thus... no pics yet. I first want all the basic metallics properly done.

Oh, what the heck. Just buffed the chrome silver and wanted to see what it looked like put together. Almost makes you wonder why I go to all the trouble spraying a green Molga in various layers to end up with something that looks like an original Molga. Well, I hope my silver is better and at least it's consistent instead of swirly. ;D Like you can see, the dark iron (as on the wheel and tail) is meh. I think I'll try out an other metal instead. Oh yeah, and the idea is that most of that silver will get a light transparent layer of pink. I'm really curious how that will work out and especially how it affects the metallic effect.

I would probably try gunmetal instead. Gunmetal seems to go well with silver and still have a really nice shine. Hope that pink comes out good. I've had good experiences doing the same. It's how I got that really shiny blue on Shadow Blade and the super glossy red on Kronos. It should turn out really shiny ;D

Thanks for the confidence people. I've got a whole slew of different metallic grey/black shades from the same manufacturer, but most aren't buffable. I think I'll just try one of them and see what happens. @ Shadow >>> What brand of transparent paints do you use over your metallics? I've got some different ones, but the only one in an odd pink that I have is from Createx. I ordered it by mistake sometime as I didn't know it was transparent. I think I'll use that, but I have no idea how that brand of paint behaves. @ Deathy >>> I've got Metallic Black as well, from Mr. Hobby Color. Is this what you used on the tail part of your Warguppy? If so, is it really black-black with metallic shine or is it lighter than that?

I can't remember what the brand was, but I they were spray paints^^; I say you do a test on something else first just to see how it'll look.

If so, is it really black-black with metallic shine or is it lighter than that? Warguppy's black paint is... Humbrol Metallic Black 201. It's kinda greyish black probably because the tail is grey and I never knew that I should use dark coating to make metallics stand out...

Ask Natsumi/machine-messiah what she uses? She's done clear over metallic a lot: machine-messiah.deviantart.com/art/Quetzalcoatl-120081786The colors are even more vivid in person. They miiight be Tamiya, but I'm not sure. All I know is Tamiya's clear blue is a freaking pain to hand paint x_o. Oh, can't speak for their clear pink, but Createx pearl purple handpaints fairly well with patience, and Natsumi's used it too...she has an airbrush.

That is one cool Storch Tilly! After determining in Photoshop which parts I wanted pink (Photoshop often helps me to decide which way to take a paintjob next) I went ahead and took the dive in the deep. Didn't have any spare silver parts to test the pink paint on, so I just thinned it down a bit until it sprayed nicely. After that on the Molga it went. Right now I'm most worried about the pink paint rubbing off the silver. Mr. Metal Color (I mistakenly called it Mr. Metalizer above) has a tendency to rub off, this is most noticable when pealing away maskingtape. It's doesn't affect the Mr. Metal Color itself, but might affect the overlying layers. Maybe it's best if I seal everything in with a glossy varnish before going to the next stage. I'm just worried that this might kill the nice metallic effect.
