Oh man, I wish more creators had that opinion on fanworks.

ShoPro is a bunch of selfish bitches that will destroy any proclamation of love to the anime they can find. That's why I loathe them. You can't use screenshots, clips, or DVD covers, it's all "their property". :P I have most of the above on my site (plus a crapton of screenshots) and I've not heard anything from them o_O. I'm not defending the attitude overall (I tend to be mostly anti-copyright as the law stands today), just saying I doubt it's WE HATE FANWORKS so much as some weirdarse rights/distribution NOO WE MUST BE THE ONLY ONES POSTING THIS issue re: Youtube, as they have official Zoids content on it that's Japan-only. I'm actually kinda curious who owns the rights for its distribution various places now, as I remember how that screwed over Macross...and ReBoot D:. I have a Zoids book by Shogakukan with fanworks and such in it.

Thinking about it, there has been a lot of press over Youtube stuff, i.e, Nickolodeon suing Google over people uploading their stuff.
Maybe it's the popularity thing... Just a theory, but practically everyone knows Youtube, and goes to Youtube as their first stop when they want to find something, whereas lesser video sites, and even personal sites like mine or Tilly's tend to overlooked, purely because they're not where people will generally flock.
That and the introduction of Youtube downloaders means that it's easier to rip stuff off it than other sites.

Just sounds like a money deal to me.

And money deal = fat greedy bastards. My opinion will never change when they dis the fan-made music videos. If they're so intent on copyright laws, then disclaimers and the lack of profit on the fans part, and potential fanbase on ShoPro's part, should be enough to ward the jerks off.

If it were just a money/using our name issue, methinks they'd come down on Zoids stuff at Wonderfest like a vengeful hammer of god, as a lot of that is sold for money (usually to cover costs because MAN is resin/silicone expensive, but still, money changing hands). Or doujin circles. Almost any company releasing anything on DVD is doing nasty money things with regions and copyprotect, too. Those exist purely for No You Cannot Has/distribution control reasons. They're piss easy to get around, but the intent's still there. And then there's examples like this, which amount to "lol pay us millions for the rights to play back any video encoded OUR way". Who cares about innovation, we have PATENTS! ...so no, I don't much like ShoPro's approach, but it's more a symptom of a wider problem D:.

Oh man, yea, I always wonder why Doujinshi's don't get ass-kicked. They bug me...

There's also no reasons why zoids should cost so much either, esp how Toywiz wanted $80 for a Murasame, $100 for Soul Tiger. Like they're seriously not trying to price gauge. I can understand why the HMMs are that expensive, but the regular zoids no.

...what's wrong with doujin? They're pretty much like drawn fanzines, a classic fandom traditional...thing.
A lot of them ORIGINALLY sell for prices that are more people regaining printing costs. It's people buying them to resell who make the prices crazy, like Toywiz and others do with models.

Tilly, try searching for certain Yu Gi Oh cards on eBay and getting drowned in Doujinshi listings. You'll learn to hate it. VERY quickly. Especially when said Doujinshis were selling at like, $30-$50 a piece. (I correct myself, the red Dark Magician + Dark Magician Girl dounjinshi I saw was almost $90. And to pair those two is like pairing Fiona and Raven. ) In any case, would that not be more copyright infringement than AMVs? AMVs have NO profit whatsoever. Doujinshi's make a profit, even if it's printing costs recovery, and none of it is sent to the actual copyright holders.

I think what Wiki means is that it bugs her that Doujishi can get away with making profit, while AMVs get asskicked even though they don't, not that there's anything specifically wrong with Doujin itself.Nevermind, she beat me to it XD

Too many for my tastes.

I don’t blame the author(s) for being defensive of their “stuff” but their reactions are extreme though. As someone who works in graphic design business, I have to be careful about stepping around copyrighted stuff.
I don’t think money is the issue here, it only part of it. The issue is the lack of control.
In the publishing world, you have to get permission (or buy rights) to use someone’s stuff. The internet changes all of that, basically anybody can post artwork or write on anything they please and get seen by millions. Nobody can monitor all the stuff that goes up on the internet, what gets taken down or removed is never gone on the internet completely.
I am not against fanfiction or fanart (I’m guilty of them myself), I only explaining there might another side other than money.
Blueeyesgirl: I couldn't see your AMV and I tried your link, but it could be that my internet is being stupid.
