My first custom. [Image Heavy]

yay, its CUSTOM TIME

^^; yeah, I forgot about this for a while... heh... its done now, 'cept for paint ^^;

First things first, hot glue is my friend and enemy at the same time. Friend because its flexible and doesn't snap like CA glue, and enemy because its so messy.

Uh... yeah, other then that, and the occasional 'forget that I had to do something and glue something else in the way, having to break it off and fix it' thing caused by me not thinking ahead, I'm VERY proud of this thing! Now she just needs an awesome paint job, and she shall be done! ^^

And at the end, I threw in her playing with her Big brother, Bladey ^^

Anyway, here we go.



Here we have the disassembled drive train. My plan was to make this open-able so I could put in LED's, but uh... heh, its kind of fused shut on all ends, but that doesn't stop me from dremeling out the bottom ^^;



Here we have my somewhat ingenious shoulder joint system, its pretty strait forward. I left the plates on the ends of the balls, and they get glued onto the side of the drive train housing. With CA glue at first, submerged in hot glue later when I tried to put a leg on and it broke off ^^;



There they are, in their respective slots ^^

It was at this point I realized that I had forgotten to put the shoulder things on ^^; So I had to take the legs off, nearly breaking them, and adding some hot glue to the innards of the leg sockets, and then hollow out and glue these bad boys in. XD

grr... I was looking forward to painting my Konig yesterday and today, but my friend thankfully let me know that oil based paints do not get along with zoid's plastics, and I need acrylic ^^;

What's this about oil paints? What're oil paints? (I've only used nail polish and sharpies so I have no idea.)

That and, in my experience, most oil based paints are horrifically expensive D:

I usually spray paint the base colors, then hand paint the rest with acrylic or model paint ;3

Enamel works fine on Zoids, though oils I'm not sure. Do NOT use enamel without very good ventillation, though. A paint fume high means bad things are happening to your body, not funtimes D:.

I like acrylics more anyway, they're easy to clean up and, while not completely harmless, are a looot less nasty. You'll probably need a clearcoat over them, though, because otherwise they'll chip or scrape off. On the plus side, if you completely mess up an acrylic paint job, you can strip it off pretty easily in comparison to enamel. Not that I've had to do that to pieces a few times...

I work with enamel paint on my customs, they hold up pretty well. I have customs that are 5 to 6 years old they seems fine, apart from the dust. XD

You need ventilation any time you work with spray paint. Krylon is brand of spray paint that is available at Wal-Mart for $3, you'll get a lot of paint that price.

I also use Testors paint (it is my primary paint), which is paint for models. Testors have the best metallic paint (in my opinion) but more expensive, $4 for much smaller can. Model Master is another brand like Testors, it a little more pricey than Testors (like a dollar more). Both can be found at hobby stores.

Update! I started painting! ^^

I'm gonna do all the white, plus booster covers, in Blue. The black will stay black, I'm gonna do the silver parts of the booster black as well, and gonna do orange gear caps, with orange led's in the eyes, scope, and the ends of the boosters ^^

The ridges are gonna be silver, claws silver, and vents and ear gaps and all of those areas are gonna be black.

I think I did pretty good for my first time ever painting a zoid model, or using this paint at all, and about the 4th time painting in my life altogether ^^;

@celtic: What do you mean by discreetly hidden flexy? ^^; And my friend said that oil based paints like to corrode the pastic, in the way of softening the heck out of it. So like, if you had an antenna, it would turn from a | to a (.

Well, my attempt at flexing the gunsniper had the joints way too noticeable, so your ability to put the joints on and have them barely noticable but still flexied is good. XD *has no clue how I'd do flexing a bigger zoid*
