@wiki: Poor Nish. Can't be fun being stuck in a faction when you don't want to be.
@blaze: Shadow is cursing me for letting this see the light of day once again XD

Yea, Nish doesn't like it. XD; Changed again, for the Centennial of Titanic. My name is one of the first "persona" names I had. I would say "screenname" but this was before I had internet. I used to be Titanicfreak, but constant typos ultimately shortened it to Titanix, which I even made an emblem for (see icon). I've studied and loved the Titanic for YEARS. Before that big movie (that I've never seen, shhh), to the point that I can recognize most documentaries. I will watch a certain one, point at it and go "That's the one I got on VHS." The one I want to see more of, is when James Cameron goes INTO the Titanic, I so badly want to see the Turkish Baths again. But most of the time, I think I'm going to see it, and it turns into the 'ribbons of steel' docu that has totally changed how I personally think the Titanic sank... It just makes sense. Actually, the Krakken, an original mini-zoid I (literally) dreamt up, is something I want to make specifically so it can crawl around and explore the Titanic and map the inside of the shipwreck. I'm so desperate for that to become real, someone can steal the Krakken idea and I won't give a shit as long as it explores the Titanic. XD; .... uhm rambling. Done now.

What's it like Madiba? Been keeping an eye on that one. Wiki, interestingly enough (and completely non-intended) mine and Ghosties wedding falls on the day that she hit the iceberg (night of the 14th), so we've got 'My Heart Will Go On' in our song line-up for the party By the way...is the rear most chimney (or smoke-stack as I believe they call them in the States) producing smoke in your sig?

Aha, XD
Hm, hard to tell with how it's set up. Shouldn't be though, wasn't the last stack just for show? (I could pull out my 882 1/2 Amazing Answers to Your Questions about the Titanic book, but I can't be arsed. Besides, I don't know if it's on shelf A, B, or downstairs.)

I can't remember exactly what the question or the half-answer was, but they answered the last question with a question, that's why it's half. XD

It's not that bad, it's a bit like Pearl Harbour, if you shut out the love story and focus on the ship itself and the telling of the events then it's quite good. Things like the depiction of the engine room during the order for hard astern just before she hits the iceberg, they're nice. Here, it's on the tube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPTkwo0jh3UFollowing that the general calm confusion as they try to figure out the damage and then the shock that the watertight compartments are being overrun, that's well done. Questionable is a few inaccuracies here and there and their portrayal of Captain Smith is more favourable than history has given him, although really general opinion on Smith is quite divided as I am sure you have observed. I'd go and see it if I were you, if nothing else it is an enjoyable film. Bit soppy in places but that's what happens when you cram love stories in places. Pearl Harbour was quite a good film if you took the stupid love triangle out of it (and the fact that the Japanese were using modern US carriers to launch from, and the fact that they were bombing modern US warships at the harbour...but to be honest if I were to list all the historical inaccuracies of Pearl Harbour...I'd need a new forum, but that still doesn't stop it from being enjoyable in many places).

After seeing "Titanic: the Final Word with James Cameron" last night, I REALLY wanna see it. Since TFW was done with Cameron (and Ken Marschall, and one of the owners of Titanic artifacts.. in total, Cameron and 8 leading Titanic experts) there were TONNES of scenes from the movie AND IT WAS AWESOME.
They did a simulation and found the Titanic broke at a shallower angle (between 19-23%) and Cameron said "Well shoot, I'll have to redo the movie, and Ken will have to redo his paintings! I'll help with the paintings if you help with the movies." Laughter.
SPEAKOFTHEDEVIL IT IS ON RIGHT NOW AAAAAAAAAAAAA *rewatches*
But the collector made me cry. He was talking about opening a bag from the depths, how it would smell musty and moldy, but when the bag opened "it smelled of heaven... and for a moment it's like the ship... the ship is alive again." and he started to cry, and it made me cry.

It's hard for me to know where to fall on the issue of Titanic artifacts, part of me is happy to have parts of the ship available for viewing...but an even larger part of me is concerned and upset at the damage to the wreck that has been caused by the various sortees down there to pluck up artifacts, and then there's the private collectors... I think the old girl should be left alone now, she's a mass grave after all. I was always under the impression that she broke under the water as she was sinking, so that the stern section didn't fall off quite as dramatically as in the film, but I guess Cameron did his best with what he had available. Certainly the effort put into the filming is legendary. You really do need to go and see it

I'm kinda with you there. Salvaging small amounts (or even the "Big Piece") for public viewing is one thing. It brings the ship to the people, bring her close to live and make her more "real", more relate-able.
And I don't mind small bits of her coal being sold as souvenirs, perhaps because I had a necklace with some in it, and am awaiting a keychain to replace the necklace since it broke. (Thankfully in such a way that I was able to salvage the salvaged coal so it wasn't lost. XD; )
But raiding her for artifacts like lavatory keys or something you can auction off to the highest bidder, things that were part of someone's life and now keep them in death, it isn't right. Like you said, and like the man said on "Saving the Titanic" just now... It's a grave. "It's my Uncle's grave." As Bob Ballard said, "They're taking the gems off the dead woman" (or something along those lines, it was over an hour ago).

Well, with the centennial passed, I've changed to Dark Ace. Mostly just for a change, and also because I wanted to find a reason to use the retort I had to a "no time for hate" bumpersticker. I ended up also adding a surprise-family from Dragon Cave. I was not expecting Bone Splinter and Silver Sunrisen to produce an egg. XD It was a shock and I kinda like the idea of a Silver dragon falling for a Black Marrow.
