I got the Avatar Art Book today and was skipping through it, when I stumbled across the original Freedom Fighters' designs



Now don't tell me that Jet's original design doesn't look like Hiltz.

Errm, only a little bit. They're in the corner of an entire two pages of designs for Zuko's Blue Spirit get-up. It basically just shows the differences between male and female Yuyan (...there are hardly any), the bandages on their fingers and different shots of the bow. Hardly anything written next to them, its all instructions and explanations for the animators. Sorry D:

I do love some of the stuff written about the Blue Spirit on this page, "IMPORTANT: THE BLUE SPIRIT MUST LOOK COOL AND SCARY! HE MUST ALWAYS MOVE IN A COOL WAY, LIKE A TIGER" and there's something else about how they were originally planning on making the mask red, but that then he looked too much like "an ancient Korean version of Spiderman".

I'll have to take photos because this is one helluva book! Would you like both pages or just the Yuyan part XD The Blue Spirit page is pretty interesting.

..Actually on that note, are there any other pages you'd like scanning, there's at least one page for each episode, pages for all the main characters (apart from Toph) and special sections dedicated to calligraphy and animals.

I also have the Avatar Artbook and I always thought Jet looked like Spike from Cowboy Bebop instead.

Overall, I like the artbook but I was disappointed in the lack of more character design pages like the ones for Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko.

It actually says his design was based on Spike. And yeah, I get what you mean, but it was made up for me by all the background designs and the little bits of text. Those background sketches wowed me so much, especially the ones for Omashu and Ba Sing Sei.

I shall scan/photograph (probably best to photograph it, my scanner is terrible) it some time soon! Just let me know if anyone wants other pages.

How much did it cost/where did you get it? I might try to get it after the HMM zoids.

I got it from amazon and it was around about £19, which is pretty cheap, although copies are getting pretty hard to find now! I know it's usually a LOT more expensive from bookshops.

Edit Blue spirit pages one and two, you should be able to read the text on full-view. Detail of my favourite bit of that page. Enjoy~
