Hello There!!
Since I disappeared for a while I thought I would post a review to make up for it. This is the newest addition to my zoids family, Bio Volcano. sorry about the semi-large pictures, they wouldn't resize correctly. I'll work on that for my next review!
In following some of Ghostie’s format here’s my review of Bio Volcano.
Manufacturer: TOMY
Released in 2005
Number of crew: 1
Motor or posable: Both! With one of those annoying rounded batteries that cost a lot.
Bio Volcano on his cool box, the box is of typical zoids size, and you could never get him to pose like that, they lie!! xD
Anime: The zoid of the main antagonist Zairin in the anime series. I won’t say anymore in case you haven’t seen the series yet!
Why I bought this kit: Ever since I saw this zoid in the anime, I’ve always wanted it in model form, but the prices on Ebay at the time, were outrageous for this guy so I stopped my search for him. About two weeks ago, I went to a store site, I’ll review the store in the other section, and behold they had him for $20 and I leapt at the chance, good thing because he was the last one in stock!
Pros/ Cons of Bio Volcano:
Pros
~Need I say it, kick ass zoid, he gets bonus points for that.
~Possability- Volcano, for a non HMM, is quite possable, instead of listing all the joints you can just look at the pictures.
~Movable tail blade. Glad they decided to make it movable, for some reason I expected good ol’ TOMY to make it immobile.
~Lights, his cockpit/core lights up and so does the Bio Particle Gun crystal. Don’t know if the eyes do though since I removed the battery, I’ll get to that later.
~Hell armor, I have a love-hate relationship with this stuff. I can forgive it for being soft, and I like it because it gives the Bio zoids that grungy, greasy look they have in the anime. It also gives you that “back off I’m a different kind of zoid feel.”
~Colors, who could have known that red and purple with a brown structure could look so good.
Cons:
~Hell Armor, though mines not as bad as some peoples, I’ve heard the horror stories about just poking one and having half it’s armor fall off, the arm armor always falls off when I try to pose the zoid. Gets a little frustrating. Also, because the plastic was that soft rubbery stuff it was hard to trim excess off. I took the advice of someone else and used nail clippers. Use them, they help tremendously, since exacto knives and scissors don’t really work.
~Sounds- this little guy makes sounds! Great, but I wish I could turn them off! There is a button on his back that activates his sounds, but you have to put a piece of armor on it, and in my case, makes the noise button stick leading to indefinite noises. For my sanity I removed the battery.
~Balance- You think TOMY could have made this zoid at least balanced. He’s front heavy, so if you want to keep him off his stand, he is always resting on all fours. I keep him off the stand because I think the light grey stand takes away from the evil affect.
~Bio Particle Gun- mine’s very flimsy. Every time I try to open it I feel like I’m going to break it off the zoid, therefore I keep it shut.
If ya have any questions feel free to ask!
Over all I'll give the kit a 8/10. It's not worth the price it was going for on Ebay, so I wouldn't pick one up unless you're a serious collector, really like Zairin, or find it for a decent price like I did.
One last comment, I loved taking pictures of this guy because of the way the flash reflected back in the eyes, making them look all glowy and doomy. Now for some pictures.
