It could have been any other manufacturer that got a bad batch of batteries in a whole swarm of their stuff, though. They don't know until AFTER they start catching fire.
I'm not saying I like Dell, but almost any big manufacturer has its share of epic fail and bad support. You'll find horror stories for them all. I buy Dell stuff because they give me what I want in the OS department and other companies don't.

Yeah, Dell's aren't that bad... at least the old dells XD new ones, however, aren't the same story >_> old ones are tanks XD but isn't that the same way with ALL companies? they all build cheap as possible now XD old laptops are almost always tanks

My Dell is a desktop and is 5 years old. Still works great and I never had a problem with it. Of course I've had to update it (RAM, new drives for more space, another video card) but I think the fact that it still has the original C drive and I've never had to reformat is amazing.

I like Dell. :< Aside of the screen thing, Spiro's been a godsend.
MAC CAN KISS MY ASS. *fume* I loathe macs. Well, I HATE Macs, I LOATHE most Mac users because they treat the users of other OS like they're a bunch of retards, or heathens that either need a brain implant or conversion, and it pisses me off.
Trust me.
Three Mac users in my bloodline.
All three are a bunch of Macophiliac LOSERS that insult "pc users" any chance they get, and I get fucking SICK of it. Example: Mom about a 'smart phone'. "It's not a smart phone." Me: "Why?" Her: "it uses Windows." -_- Aunt: "Windows is so worthless, I can't understand why anyone..." Me: "Don't even say it." Aunt: "could even think of using them." Uncle: *refers to anything not-Mac as POS.* Which, for those that don't know, which I'm sure you all know, stands for "piece of shit".
*loathes macophiles, wants someone to make a deadly virus that wipes out all their fucking precious, "secure and safe, and virus-free" machines.* Sadly that would make the Mac users that are tolerable suffer, too. >_>

well hey, I already have a mac virus that nukes their hard drives XD but the way it spreads is through docked PSPs. basically, someone gave me their psp to put that custom firmware on, and they were the mac kind of people. like celtic said. so what I did is mod the psp, and then stick a mac virus in it. It will load onto the system, sit for about a week, and then format the hard drive XD BWAHAHA! it worked so well! And it installs itself into the firmwares of the bios, so if you reinstall OSX, you get it again XD but I didn't code all of it, my mischievous friend helped a lot XD

I like to call everything PCs and distinguish by OS. I also hate the PC = Windows assumption, but I should be used to being the category that doesn't exist by now XD.
Mac OS and Linux breeds, though, ARE better at resisting many types of malware and viruses. Windows has that epic ISSUE of "oh hi, by default I will do everything as admin, often without even a password on the account :D", and trying to be a user that's not-admin causes other problems.
This is entirely different from "immune to". Nasty crap exists for both (though it's hard to spread them without at least some user action/stupidity—breaking something by transferring it physically onto the system yourself doesn't count!), and a lot of security issues these days are more browser and plugin based. I have NoScript for a reason!
I mean, I dislike Microsoft's business practices and I have my issues with Windows, but I can't stand the people bashing on it nonsensically. The OMG IMMUNE TO EVERYTHING AND WINDOWS FALLS OVER IF YOU SNEEZE!!1! Mac and Linux fanboys make me headdesk, especially. Stop making your OS look bad.

Try a live CD first, so you don't go through all the trouble of setting up dual boot to discover a particular distro hates your hardware's soul!
Ubuntu's probably a good first option to try...don't judge it by the default theme/colors. There's also Mint, which is based off Ubuntu (so you can use all its packages/repositories, which is handy) and has a lot of media stuff Ubuntu can't have preinstalled already there.
You can get said stuff into Ubuntu easily, they just don't preinstall it due to...various rather complex legal/patent issues. Wheeeee, I'm potentially breaking the law every time I play a copy-protected DVD, even if it's one I bought and paid for myself~.

Well, I gotta admit, for all the crap I've heard about Vista, I'm not actually finding it too bad!

Well, I gotta admit, for all the crap I've heard about Vista, I'm not actually finding it too bad! Yeah you're not going to have such a bad deal with Vista if you don't use huge programs or huge file sizes. Vista's flaw is that it doesn't distribute RAM good at all. Having 2 video cards and at least 4G of RAM makes Vista fine though for the bigger programs. I'm personally a cross platform person. I like both Mac and Windows equally. Each has their pros and cons. Oh, and awesome mac virus: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tMQAhYemiA

>> I love vista and Linux XD And it does distribute ram, VERY well, but, the reason it uses so much is that it caches programs so they start up VERY quickly next time, like firefox for example. Have lots o' ram, and you have a speedy computer XD
