I prefer 3D sometimes, though it's such a ripoff, especially since I'm too old for child tickets and too young for student ones =_= I went to see Up in 3D which was not worth it. Even though I love the effects in 3D films (when they are actually there!) they do give me a headache, and I have the problem of already wearing glasses so I get massive glasses build-up when I go to a 3D film!

I don't mind either 2D or 3D... But just remember that, at the moment, 2D's what you end up with when you get the DVD.

I just hate gimmicks XD I'd rather be wowed at the story and actual animation than some cheesy 3D effect.

I just hate gimmicks XD I'd rather be wowed at the story and actual animation than some cheesy 3D effect. Then come to the outer banks. We are lacking in anything 3D, which sucks ass to people who want to see that. IE me. And what really REALLY pisses me off... The stupid mondotheatre here got Clash of the Titans in 3D (face it, you know they only remade that for the 3D effect. I'm sick of goddamn remakes, be original, bitches), but I had to go all the way to fucking Chesapeake to see Avatar in 3D. And most of the time, the movies I see aren't solely for 3D effects. If you close your brain off to the aspect of a movie just because it's offered in 3D, you'll be missing on a lot. I actually have an eye for picking out what parts are used to milk 3D effects, and let me tell you, Avatar was without. (Well, there was one part, but it was only noticeable when you actually went to the 3D showing. IE, it happened too quickly and as an afterthought to pick up on in 2D). The worst 3D milking in HTTYD was the title where the fisherman in the Dreamworks moon flicked his hook out. And sure, those flying scenes would look much more awesome, but it's not obvious like the spear fight in Battle of the Smithsonian.

It's opposite here, all the movies are 3D and not in 2D. I wish they offered a choice. Had to see Up, Avatar, and How To Train Your Dragon in 3D. Loved all of them, so I'm not automatically hating movies just cuz they're 3D XD It's just what you said about the whole milking thing. I just fear that it's going to become more and more about this visual wow and less about actual substance of the plot, characters, etc. I already witnessed that in the 2nd Transformers movie Or maybe I need to stop watching Ghost In The Shell so much... XD;

Oh God... The worst milking of the 3D effects (and bear in mind the only film I've ever seen in 3D so far is Avatar) I've seen was the trailer for some piranha film. A guy had a chainsaw and was slashing at something. The 3D effect was overdone and made the chainsaw look weird...

Just be glad you haven't seen the movies by Robert Rodriguez or however his name is spelled. They are made SOLELY to milk 3D effects. If you see it in 2D, it's so retarded. Like SB&LG, the part with the coocoo clocks and bubble ... whatever they were's... And SK3D, watching it on TV and seeing ALL THE BROKEN PIECES FLY ONLY AT THE VIEWER and the stupid metal finger was like... ... ... yea. (Oh gawsh, and according to IMDB.com, he's making a Spy Kids 4... in 3D. Heaven help us.)
So at least Avatar and HTTYD were made for both 2D and 3D. Same with Smithsonian. There are some scenes which you go "oh gawsh, milking", but overall, it's a movie for movie's sake.
I didn't see Smithsonian and HTTYD in 3D (and I haven't seen that Meatballs movie at all). Frankly, I don't feel like going all the way up to Chesapeake and spending almost $20 on HTTYD. It's cute. Not that cute. I'll spend the $20 when it comes to DVD. XD It was better to do with Avatar because Mom and Grandma got to double the trip as an errand-run to Sam's Club. XD
Speaking of HTTYD, I saw it again tonight. XD
(I'm rambling, I will shut up now.)

Well now I don't have enough money to see anything in 2D or 3D. We have a pretty wide choice around here, the local cinema (which is the only cinema for north nottinghamshire and most of derbyshire) shows 2D and 3D, though there are two or three cinemas about 16 miles from here, one of which doesn't show 3D, but its an independent cinema, has cheap prices, shows independent or obscure foreign films AND is really nice, the other two are a Cineworld, which is still cheaper than my local cinema, and an Odeon, which I assume has the same prices as the local Odeon. The local Odeon, by the way, is stupidly overpriced to buy tickets in the first place, let alone anything to snack on in the cinema (luckily there's a Sainsburys next door) and has the stickiest floors you may ever encounter. The only benefit it has is the Sunday child screening, when adult tickets are £2.60. Mmmm £2.60.

Ouch, yeah, Odeon...
Mind you, Cineworld's not much better. It's £20 for three large drinks and three tubs of Ben and Jerry's, and that's WITHOUT the entry price for three people.
But yeah, our local shows films no-one wants to watch, with the occasional good one.

Well, I have two theatres here.
The Pioneer, which plays one movie a night at 8pm for 7 nights before it switches movies over. (So HTTYD will be there through Thursday, then something else will come on Friday.) The Pioneer seats ... used to seat over 300 before they got better seats, but it's still a massive theatre. The ticket prices are $5, normal candy (like Reeses cups) are 80 cents, large drinks (which admittedly are only 16oz) are $1, large butter popcorn (which is a normal theatres small) is $1. So it's not too pricey, however, sometimes the quality shows it. There was a short while (a few weeks) in which there was unrepairable static noises on the sound track. (In Kung Fu Panda, it was so bad during one movie that you couldn't hear anything, then it finally cut off during the final scene, and I'm not kidding, the entire theatre broke out in applause to have the audio fixed.) He gets reels from other people so they have tape residue, in which he normally cuts out a couple frames and tapes them back together. According to Paul, he cut an entire conversation out of one of the Oceans movies. (Oceans 11 or 12.) I have a long string of damaged credits from one movie, they were gnarled when he got them. Also, when Percy Jackson came, it looked like someone sprinkled bleach on the film, it was "snowing" for about 45 minutes.
The other theatre has several theatres inside, none as big as the Pioneer, the ticket price is $7.50 ... for the cheaper whatever one. But the lightbulbs have a tendancy to burn out, or the reel slips. the prices for concessions is typically priced, kinda high. I don't know how much 3D costs for that theatre (the one in Chesapeake was $17). I just live in a sucky place. XD

Dang if I went to one where the film quality was that bad, I'd walk out and demand a refund!

Blimey Celtic, is the projector still hand-cranked? In the parts of the film where there's no sound does a little guy on a piano down at the front start playing and bits of card are interjected in conversations in the film to show what people are saying? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd6izyWr9dA
