Have you ever had it where you've seen something become popular, and said to yourself, "That's not my thing" only to find yourself suddenly become hooked?
That happened to me with Pokemon. I was reading the newspaper just after Pokemon had hit the UK and there were stories of some mothers shelling out loads of money on Pokemon merchandise for their kids. I recall telling Mum that she'd never have to worry about that with me...
Then in Tesco one day I was looking at the Pokemon stuff hanging in the toy section, and my eyes landed on a two pack set of Eevee and Flareon Figures. I couldn't resist! Pikachu and Raichu followed about a week later ^^;
And would you believe that, despite being a fan of the Zoids Anime already, I had never intended to collect the kits? The only two I wanted were Blade Liger and Geno Saurer and that was supposed to be all... but that poor lonely Shield Liger was crying for someone to take him home...

Yu Gi Oh and Ouran High School Host Club. To be honest, I can't even remember why I started watching OHSHC. XD Yu Gi Oh was one I was leery of, I stayed away, but after seeing a glimpse of the Master of Magicians (particularly the part where Mahado sacrificed himself to save Yugi), I was attracted to the Dark Magician. I got what I thought was a DM Tin, but it was actually SDY, and a then-friend taught me how to duel (which was WRONG so I ended up relearning it later and had to teach him). It's kinda funny, while I was friends with this guy, he would lecture me on not getting too upset if I lost and I never would get a holofoil. But after I got fed up with him and cut off the relationship, I heard from a mutual friend that he not only got upset when he lost, he even TORE a card. (You'll think I'm mad, but I believe there's something more to the cards, so that action is strictly taboo with me, it hurts the cards.) At that point, I made it crystal clear I wasn't going to speak to him again. And ever since then, I get a holofoil about every three packs. Including one that, when I was friends with him, I promised I'd give to him if I ever got it and I never did. A month after cutting it off, I got the Masked Beast. I actually have three now. XD I can also talk to a limited number of them. When I'm rooting through PP01 or IOC, I can actually ask Elensar (my name for the Magician of Black Chaos) which pack he's in and he'll direct me. Not kidding. Did that with PP01 (which came two booster packs in a blister pack) and got the direct answer of "top hook, second pack in" and when I got home and opened it, not only did I get one MoBC, I got TWO. And you people probably think I'm officially insane now. But I don't care! *hugs the cards* They've been here for me when no one else was. For example, after Lori dumped me like a bad enchilada, the first time I shuffled my gold deck, in the first seven cards I drew were Elensar, Daeron (red Dark Magician), Breaker the Magical Warrior and Black Luster Envoy, Perhaps my four most favourite cards in that deck, coming to console me. Just try to say my top four favourites out of a 43 card deck just happened to come out when I was depressed. I could go on....

Hm well it's not exactly a big fandom. But y'see, I was into medical stuff. And came across this manga named "Team Medical Dragon". I thought it'd be a pretty boring manga but by the time I completed the first chapter, I wanted to keep on reading and fell in love with the series. Seriously do hope it will be English adapted so I can buy it ;D Aaaand also Final Fantasy. I thought it was... well... not so interesting til I met Ghostie and Electric, started chatting about FF9. Interested, I went to check it out. And got into Final Fantasy ;D Zidane and Sephiroth rules

Oh, having just changed my Firefox theme, I thought of another Fandom... Doctor Who! I never thought I'd be a fan of that, but here I am laminting lamenting David Tennant leaving!

Lamenting dear...Lamenting... In other news, I never thought I'd get into Star Trek as I did. The first major series I got into was The Next Generation after Mum was watching it, I was quite dismissive of it at first but then got really engrossed and became a massive Trekkie, still am ;D Crime series are another thing I never really thought I'd like, but here I am watching A Touch of Frost and a rather big fan of NCIS.

haha, NCIS... I don't watch it much, and am not officially a fan (to me, a fan is someone who makes time to watch an episode/read a book, I only go if nothing else is on, or that one time mom went "Dog whisperer" ... no wait, Caesar Milan was on Bones... nevermind), but it is one murder-show that I don't mind watching.
My mom watches so many murder-shows that when she was first out of her surgery, I am NOT kidding, from 10AM to 7PM she watched NOTHING but things like Murder She Wrote, Matlock, ... uh... (what is it that goes "CHONGCHONG"?.... Oh!) Law & Order, etc, so I have an overexposed hatred of shows like that now. (Hell, she watched so much Murder She Wrote, I realized that there's a set schedule to every single episode! I forget the exact times, but it was something like 30 minutes - murder commited. 45 - false accusation. 50-55 minutes - true murderer revealed. I'm not kidding. If you watch three episodes and keep track. It varies by a minute or two, but I guarantee it.

ROFLMFAO Celtic, I gotta admit, Murder She Hoped does get rather predictable, and if the murderer doesn't get you, the saccharine will.
I'm not so much a fan as in I will watch all episodes all the time, most of the time I'm looking the wrong way for that, but I do like watching the odd episode here and there.
One exception to that rule is Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, that is religiously watched. ;D

Yu-Gi-Oh was like that for me, but it started being the only thing on on Saturday mornings that I liked, when they stopped playing Cardcaptor Sakura. I was that way about .hack too and Studio Ghibli movies (since I disliked the style). I've loved Studio Ghibli movies though ever since I saw Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away (I was super excited with Howl's Moving Castle came out (cause the book was good) and also when Ponyo came out, I've since fell in love with Grave of the Firiflies and My Neighbor Totoro).

Lol, I love that variant of Camberwick Green.
And it's funny you should mention Howl's Moving castle, Mii-chan. One of my co-workers was channel hopping in the staff room on Saturday, and it was on... Thing was, I'd just started washing up my mug to go back to work and the bugger left it on that channel!! I find it hard enough to gear myself up to go back to work, without things I wanna watch being left on TV.
