Manufacturer: TakaraTomy
Origin of Release: Japan
Year of Release: 2008
Crew Number: 1
Motor or Posable?: 1x AA Battery Op Motor
Info:
A re-release of the popular, but very rare Grade-Up Zoid, Gungyarados is a special edition to the Monthly Zoids Graphics line (Monthly Zoids Graphics Extra).
Like all the previous Zoids Graphics, it comes with a special graphic booklet.
The booklet contains some battle story history, A "Zoids Mechanic File" with data and photos of Gungyarados, a collection of photos of a selection of both OJR and NJR Zoids, plus a "Zoids Museum" featuring concept drawings and prototype photos of Gojulas Giga.
Features:
Gungyarados can be switched between "Walking mode" where it stands upright in a kind of sepentine "S" shape and "Flight Mode" where it can be positioned on all fours. Gungyarados is capable of walking in both modes.
Additionally while walking, Gungyarados opens and closes it's jaws, and a barrel inside its gun spins, making it look like a light traveling up the sides of the gun.
Gungyarados' gun, tail and wings have limited posability.
Ghostie's Views:
Have been anticipating this re-release ever since it was announced, and, after being pushed back a month, I was overjoyed when I finally held the box in my hands!
And Gungy does not disappoint!
If the realisation that you can now get the 600-800 USD Gungy for a decent price hasn't hit you yet, then the features alone should be enough to warrent some interest! And the Silver chromed parts are guaranteed to grab the attention of most Retro and Zoids2 fanatics.
I was a bit overwhelmed when I saw the giant purple eyesore they call a gun! I was tempted to leave it off and just use the Grade-Up gun, but the longer I left it on, the more I got used to seeing it there.
I also was a little disappointed with the box, since it doesn't have the opening display flap that the other Zoids Graphics have, though granted, that flap's only purpose would be to show the parts in the box, and if you're building it, then there would be no need for it anyway, but it still would've been nice to have.
Conclusion:
All in all a must have for any collection, particularly for those who's budget won't stretch to the original, and those who need a cheaper way of getting replacement parts for a broken or incomplete original Gungy.

The gun can also be positioned further forward, and the wings folded up
Here's the gun with that big purple part removed. During the time of the Grade-ups, this main part of the gun was also available as a seperate grade-up unit. It's compatible with most grade-up Zoids and can still occasionally be found on eBay and YJA
A close up of Gungy's "Power Emblem" (The red strip on the chest) When building, make sure you remember to put this on... so many people forget because it's so small and it gets thrown away on the sprues. (Note, Gungy actually has two - one on the gun sprue too - but the manual mentions nothing about putting this second one on. You can if you like, but I think it looks better with just one)
Gungy and the graphics booklet it comes with
I apologise for not having a comparison photo (Don't have an original Gungy), so here's the re-release munching on a Malteser! NOM NOM NOM!
