I was wondering if anybody here would be able/willing to assist me in throwing ideas to improve my art style and give tips on how to not lose interest in an art project before it's finished.

I have run up into a snag, My Okami fuhrer looks more like a Fury C.A.S. and not it's own Zoid...Is anyone able to throw ideas my way for how to remove armor while making it more fierce and unique among Fury and Geno types?

In all honesty, if you want your zoid to be truly original and apart from the others, design it from scratch. I'd also recommend throwing in some more weaknesses for it too because if you've ever watched a show where the main character can just own everything easily then you'll know that it's not very interesting to watch. Even the deathsaurer had weaknesses. So maybe you'd be better giving it one superpowered weapon but it can only be used once, like liger zero panzer for example?

I have one. Ragnarok CPC, while it's powerful (E-Shield that Blade Liger!) It puts so much strain on the core and pilot, even the best pilots with an organoid will be lucky to walk away from firing a 3rd shot (Im obsessed with the 3 shot thing...I blame Dr. D)
Im a tad too in love with the Fury types for that ^^;
I made the Fuhrer (needs a new name now) to be an evolution of the original Fury ^^;

Mm. I'm just saying that that Fury is far too overpowered. Even with it being an evolution to the regular Fury (excuse me if I sound rude) but there is absolutely no way that it would be more powerful than the Deathsaurer. Bear in mind that Furies are quite small and bear in mind that although the Fury in NC:0 was pretty powerful, it only have that one weapon and it still had flaws. Sure, an evolution would have less flaws, but it would not be perfect and it certainly wouldn't be like some-kind of zoid god.

But yeah you absolutely MUST have a balance with strengths and weaknesses. I would limit the Ragnarok CPC to one shot and even then something that powerful have consequences, like how even one shot from Panzer's cannon almost completely fry the systems and Zero itself. What I do when designing a zoid is list all possible abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Then from there, pick a few from each so they're all even with one another. For designing, don't even base it off the Fury because it will always end up looking like it. I just look up a ton of different mechs and start sketching possible ideas, then combine them. It's better if you star from scratch like Pirate said. |

A long time ago, I had an original zoid named the Black Phantom... It was a weird zoid. It could travel any terrain - water, sand, sky, ground... It had wings, claws, blades... Speed and high agility... At one point he had a CPC gun, but that was ultimately scrapped.
But in order for Phantom to have such versatility, speed, agility, he had to have lower armour and defenses and less firepower to weigh him down. This is also why his CPC was scrapped. If he didn't have armour, the weapon would fry him.
In the end, Phantom faded because for him to be a realistic original zoid, he would end up being rather brittle.
Stat-wise, KJ is comparable to the Shadow Fox, but with higher stealth. And since he's got higher stealth, his close range is a bit limited. The energy to go into something like Strike Laser Claw would draw from the optimized stealth he has.
You can see where I'm going with this. Every stat up in one area draws down another area. There is no god zoid. Hell, if the Death Saurer, an oversized nuclear death machine; or the Death Stinger, speedy skittery doom that can live in the centre of the planet, can't be gods, there's no way a piddlyfart fury can be.

Hmmm, lowering to one shot shouldnt be too bad at all. Add that to it's extreme lack of ranged weapons and armor...any further suggestions?
Also, I'd like to add the only reason Im asking is for a contest and for a group of mine in which I use the Okami Fuhrer (nicknamed Hakai no Kami), and i want to be decent when I finally draw the final version.

Why would you ask us for advice if you don't really listen? This is also why his CPC was scrapped. If he didn't have armour, the weapon would fry him. If Phantom had a "stock" CPC (I had the Geno Saurer's in mind when I made it) which got scrapped, why would you scrap the defense for a zoid with a powered up CPC? After all, Sarah calls off Vega's attempt to fry Cisco and the Blitz team when he's in the stripped Fury. If you're going to have a charged particle weapon, defense is a must. The things I picture a Fury losing is the speed and agility (they have little of that to begin with... Vega's dodging the missiles is just an act of Sue), especially if you want your zoid to have a CPC so powerful it can't be used frequently. (Boosters for straight shots of faster-than-walking pace exempt, of course. Furies and Genoids have them frequently I notice.) That said, I'm of the opinion that a fury evolution (especially one of "godlike" powers) isn't original. Everyone loves furies (me included), before I met the Tyrann, I did have a custom red fury that I had in my head. On the god front, everyone wants a god zoid. Have you seen Genesis? There's nothing original about godlike powers. |

I see...I would have kept important armor parts, such as footlocks, and had the speed for far better melee instead of the stereotypical God Zoid long range death.
Well, I appreciate all the ideas. I'll just go ahead and scrap the Zoid, too many issues. Thanks though.
