(Copy/paste from dA as that was wordy and I don't wanna type it all again.)
Lest We Forget, September 11, 2001.
Disclaimer: I know it sucks, okay? I've been working on it almost nonstop the past three days (I woke up at 6 fucking 30 to get the last details done so I could post it) and right now it's good enough to post, so I will. I still have the .SAI, if I feel like it, I'll make the beast and the background (which was supposed to be a night sky) look better. Just not right now. That and I discovered too late that I screwed up and made it all lanky. Blame drawing Picanto too much and real animals not enough.
What was your experience like? What do you remember about that day?
I remember mom calling off homeschooling, and we went for a drive through our hometown at that time, Boone, listening to the radio. "They hit the world trade center" it kept saying, "The towers are burning." I kept asking who "they" were and why hitting a tower was bad. (I was picturing cars, they didn't mention planes at first.) Then when they mentioned planes, I thought it was little planes...
Mom had to explain that they were using passenger jets to fly into the WTC, on purpose. I can remember looking up at the sky, how blue it was, how bright the sun was, hardly a cloud, and some offhanded thought going "It's too bright a day for this."
It's a bit of a blur after that. I can't remember if we watched the towers fall live or not, or when we got home, or what else we did. That evening, mom and her friend went to a meeting, and I watched her kid - my friend, Kimberly - and we took a moment, just thinking... then praying...
It was either ... the next day or the day after when some military jet flew so close, I was sure the trees, if they were just a yard or so taller, would tickle the belly of the airplane. I ran out of the driveway to watch, still a bit panic-stricken, almost waiting for an explosion. None happened. Turns out they were using the mountains to train for Afghanistan.
I'm not really sure when CAP was next held... But I remember one of the things we talked about was the attacks, and one of the men said "They've pissed off the sleeping dog."
That was the start of my weird representation of America. I only ever drew it in September, then kinda forgot about it. I figured this would be a good way to remember.
If I ever find that drawing, I'll post it here, but be ye warned, it sucks.
I tried to cover everything, from the WTC, to the Pentagon, to the field where Flight 93 crashed. (That's why the grass has more attention than the beast.)
