Ok, now things are starting to get a tad worrying. There's been a third explosion, this time at number 2 reactor. So that's an explosion at number 1, 2 and 3 reactor, all most likely caused by a build-up of hydrogen within the reactor room from venting from the reactor...however, this most recent explosion is reported to have damaged the pressure vessel...which means, if what I have read is correct and bear in mind this is all very breaking news stuff and therefore is due a high degree of unreliability and drama, but if they are now unable to vent pressure from the reactor it could very well build up and explode, thus breaching the reactor and exposing the core to the atmosphere which as anyone will tell you...is a VERY bad thing. However, it's possible that they will be able to continue venting through a backup system, I don't know the precise ins and outs of Fukushima NPP but this most recent explosion does have a more serious overtone to it than the other two which have damaged mainly the reactor room building but left the reactor itself relatively undamaged.

It does certainly look like things are quietening down at the reactors now, although it's been confirmed that there were four explosions not three as previously reported and there was a brief fire at the rod dumping pool when the pool drained and the rods were exposed. However there's not a great deal of communication in Japan between the parties involved in this, PM Kan was witnessed asking members of the Tokyo Electrical Company "What the hell is going on?" So, between this and the scare-mongering and overzealousness we will most likely be hearing the words 'nuclear' and 'disaster' next to each other for another two or three days at least. However, now that things are past at the reactor many people in the Japanese government will be looking ahead at what will be a decade of darkness for Japan. The Japanese economy was already in a difficult position before this disaster and this will really screw it big time, Toyota, one of Japans biggest exporters, has shut its factories down temporarily and the rolling blackouts will play havoc on the factories that are still open, plus many people will be staying at home rather than go to work with the 'nuclear cloud' hanging over them and constant powerful aftershocks and separate earthquakes occurring (many of these 'aftershocks' are actually happening nowhere near the site of the 9.0 quake and are in fact separate quakes of their own caused by the activity on the fault, it will be a little while yet before the line settles down) so that will greatly reduce the money that the Japanese government has to clear up and rebuild with. They will get through this, Japan has gotten through disasters before, but I wager that it will need help and will most likely be looking for an international aid package to assist in the rebuilding effort, if China has any sense it will help with this because it has the money to do so and it would be to Chinas advantage to continue to have a strong manufacturing sector in Japan who it exports heavily from, but I don't know how Beijing works so no-one can be sure there. Japan went through the 'economic miracle' at the end of the second world war with American help, it is possible that with similar help that this catastrophe can be the opening for a second economic miracle and golden age for Japan. It is a positive way to look at this and we can hope that this is how it will go.
What does it mean for The Zoidian though? Well, in the short term it is possible that the prices of Zoids from Japan will rise as taxes are put up and the Japanese government rallies around to get money from wherever it can, however if you are still able to, I do urge you to continue to buy zoids and other model kits from Japan, because the more money you can put into Japan, the more money they will have in their markets so that people can buy things and keep things running. It's going to be a long road to recovery, but I'm confident that Japan will get there, it will need some help but the Japanese people are a very hardy, and calm people, the fact that there is not widespread looting and chaos after such a massive disaster is evidence of this.

I intend to keep on buying from Japan whenever I can I believe Japan can definitely pull through. I saw a news report last night of a town hit by tsunami, it was almost entirely levelled out.

Another case of over reactionDoesn't say anything in the listing directly, at least not in English, but It's just the way they put Japan Nuclear Power face Protector in the title. I suppose it is a smart selling point when you think about it. There's bound to be a ton of idiots thinking that Radiation is only harmful if you inhale it and can be stopped by cloth who'll be searching with those keywords.

I didn't get the e-mail either.
Hmm well a face mask can only stop Alpha particles and Hot particles (this was mentioned in an Exploring Pripyat site when I checked it out ages ago, it can be ingested and cause damage, will only occur if the reactors explodes resulting in fallout), but not Beta (thin layer of plastic or metal such as Al-foil can stop it) nor Gamma. </Nuclear Chem>
But I love how the "nuclear face protector" picture says it's a sun protector XD
